Remarkable Reishi

                    DSCN0172

Ganoderma Lucidum also known as Reishi Mushroom or Ling Zhi, is one the worlds most powerful medicinal fungi. Nathan, my partner, was familiar with Reishi In the forests of south western Louisiana as a child. Since then we have learned how remarkable Reishi Mushroom really Is. We now keep it as a house hold tonic. The reishi above is growing on a dead tree in New Orleans, Louisiana.
When we did research on this mushroom we found out the medicinal properties. Inside of the mycelium walls of a Reishi mushroom are beta-glucans, an essential long chain sugar that help our bodies heal themselves. These long chain sugars, or polysaccharides, help fight cancer, candida, and diabetes. The polysaccharides give your immune system the weapons they need to fight off bad bacteria and viruses. Reishi also lowers allergies, blood pressure, and cholesterol. The Reishi mushroom is:

  • anti-bacterial
  • anti-Candida
  • anti-inflammatory
  • anti-oxidant
  • anti-tumor
  • anti-viral
  • blood sugar moderator
  • cholesterol reducer
  • immune enhancer
  • kidney tonic
  • liver tonic
  • respiratory revitalizer
  • nerve tonic
  • stress reducer

"Reishi helps protect healthy cells during chemo-therapy or any exposure to radiation."

So, how can you find your own reishi and when you do how do you harvest it? Reishi has a red/burgundy top with an appearance of glossiness that fades into orange with a white polypore belly. They are one of the most easiest polypores to identify.

They are also found on dead trees and stumps. To harvest use a knife and cut off or break off a majority of the mushroom but leave some attached to the tree so it can keep multiplying. Then take home and either immediately blend into powder and make tea or dehydrate for at least 12 hours and powder for storing long periods of time. The dehydrated powder can be used for smoothies or capsules. There is also an option of alcohol extraction which we are currently experimenting with. I'll post that recipe up once we finish it up and test it.
But, there ya go! Everything you need to know so you can hunt your own reishi mushrooms and make a medicinal tea! If you have any family members or friends with any dis-ease of the body go hunt some dead trees for some reishi!

Love & Light!

  1. Thank you for sharing those sweet info about reishi mushrooms! And yes, this fungi plant offers a lot of health benefits. In fact, reishi mushroom is regarded by ancient Taoist as the “elixir of eternal youth” because of its medicinal value. And Japanese and Chinese emperors drink reishi tea to achieve virility and vitality. [Mack Shepperson]
